I’ll never understand how Calvinism continues on in teaching their narrowed view of Election and Predestination.
A study on the book of Revelation and twice I hear that if anyone is not one of the Elect, that they should cry out for mercy from God. If they are not one of the elect, then according to Calvinism, they can neither of their own volition cry out nor will the Spirit cause them to cry out.
Such teaching is ultimately sadistically oppressive. Ephesians 1 and II Timothy 2:19-20 are oft cited in reference to special Election and both exclusive un-Election (to those unbelieving) and inclusive Election (to those believing). However, Jeremiah 17:10 is never cited along with its more important sister verse, II Timothy 2:21. Joshua begs Israel to choose (Joshua 24:15).
But such are the traditions of Man. That creature who seeks to interpret rather than understand. Who assigns God to the category most befitting him.
This Christian life I live is relatively easy, considering the burden and sacrifices I make to serve Christ. Bonhoeffer wrote of this in his essay Discipleship and the Cross. But the promise and reality of rest and an easy yoke far outweigh anything I have or will forgo. I just wish Calvinism would consider this when burdening the laity with Election and Predestination.
…Another day now another doctrine. Another monkey wrench in the system…
