Used To Be

Naturalism.
Looking one’s age.
Dressing well.
Blissfully ignorant
till age deemed
otherwise.
Silence owned
the world and
nature still
whispers its tales.
A bigger world
less connected.
Dusk spoke that
we should soon sleep.

But biplanes filled
the skies and flappers
redefined womanhood.
Telephones tied a noose
around our necks and
dictatorships reemerged.

Perhaps modernity
should reinstitute a
better history.
